Owari Shippou

History

It is said that during the Tenpo era (1830-1844), Tsunekichi Kaji of Owari Province discovered the manufacturing method using the cloisonne plate imported by a Dutch ship as a clue, and made some improvements.

Feature

Generally speaking, pottery is made by molding soil like baked ceramics, but Cloisonne uses a metal base of copper or silver and applies a glass glaze to the surface, such as Kacho Fugetsu and landscape. It is characterized by the design. In particular, wired cloisonne, which applies silver wire to the outline of the pattern, is a typical technique of Owari cloisonne.

Manufacturing process

Make a metal base in the shape of a vase, plate, etc. using a copper (silver) plate, and draw a sketch with ink on it. In the case of wired cloisonne, a silver ribbon wire (silver wire) is planted (planted wire) with a special glue along the sketch, and a glassy glaze is applied and fired. Baking is repeated 4 to 8 times. After that, it is polished and decorated to complete.
