Matsuyama Castle


Matsuyama Castle, which build on Katsuyama (132m above sea level) in the center of Matsuyama City, by Yoshiaki Kato, one of the seven spears famous for the battle of Shizugatake, .

It is Hirayama Castle, which has a large number of gates, turrets, and walls, skillfully arranges gaps, stone walls, and high stone walls, and has a castle tower with excellent simultaneous offensive and defensive functions.

Matsuyama Castle is one of the "12 existing castle towers" that remains in only 12 places in Japan, and is one of the castles with castle towers built before the Edo period. In 2006, it was selected as one of the "100 Famous Castles in Japan" and in 2007, along with Dogo Onsen, it was selected as one of the "100 Beautiful Historical Climates of Japan".

In addition, only Matsuyama Castle and Hikone Castle have been confirmed to exist in the Nohara Tower, which is the only existing watchtower-type double turret in Japan, and in the castle of the "12 Existing Existence Keepers", which is a defense method for the Korean castle. "Climbing Ishigaki" runs from Ninomaru to Honmaru, and the entire Shiroyama Park including Horinouchi is a national historic site. "100 selections of Japanese cherry blossom spots (1990)" and "100 selections of Japanese historical parks (2006)" Has also been designated.
