Valentine’s Day in Japan

Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine,[1] is celebrated annually on February 14. It originated as a minor Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and romantic love in many regions of the world.

In Japan, one of Chocolate company started marketing later 1970's, with a phrase "The day, ladies confess their love to someone special." Because of this, women give chocolate to someone special to confess their love on Valentine's day.
And men who got chocolates on the Valentine's day would give candies or white chocolates on white day, March the 14th. There would be some other theories, but mostlikely it has been said that giving candies means just keeping friendship, and giving white chocolates means "I love you, too!". Even if you got candies, it could be with neckless or some accessories in order to tell love as well.
