katana 刀、日本刀
Katana, Japanese swords were manufactured until the Haito Edict was issued in Meiji Era, in Japan. Currently, approval from the government is required to manufacture Japanese swords, and the manufacturing method is handed down only to some swordsmiths who can manufacture Japanese swords. The current situation is that the aspect of arts and crafts is becoming stronger than actural sord as weapon.
Many swordsmiths focused on manufacturing knives such as camping knives, kitchen knives and sickels instead of Japanese swords.
The Japanese swords' manufacturing method and its craftsmanship still exists in those knives.
